  • Great way to travel

Our stay at the University House was the best of two worlds. We and another couple travelling with us had an entire house to ourselves and we had someone to prepare our breakfast, including homemade baked goods, and make our beds and clean. The house is owned by Leigh who gives great tips on what to do in t Newberg OR. We spent one day at the Evergreen Aviation and Space Museum and a second touring wineries. Our last morning we walk the creek trail at George Fox University. We enjoyed having cocktails and appetizers on the covered patio, grilling dinner, and relaxing in the hot tub. We will definitely plan another stay and maybe a hot air balloon flight. J& P

What a wonderful place!! We had a relaxing comfortable stay. At breakfast we chatted with Leigh (our choice) about local wine, places to visit, area attractions, food and produce and so on. We did a stroll thru the campus across the street (this may be the quietest campus in USA, it's a Quaker institution) very pleasant. She gave us references to two superb wineries to visit that are off the commercial radar that we wouldn't have visited if not for her recommendation (Leigh, a Pinot Noir nut like us, worked in the local wine industry at one time). I was exceptionally pleased and made a considerable purchase to go down into my cellar at home (my better half was stunned). We also wandered around the historic homes in this area and found 1-2 to buy :). Great relaxation time in the hot tub which provides a secluded retreat with a glass of wine or just dine outside at the table, we did both. I can highly recommend this home even if you are not interested in wine touring. You can walk to restaurants if you like. Extremely quiet and peaceful. We will be back there spring 2011.

I doubt there is a better value out there than this B&B...you get the entire house to yourself. It is wonderfully furnished with exquisite antiques and beautifully restored and full of amenities. Since we have stayed here we won't stay anywhere else when we visit this area. Leigh, the owner, makes you feel so very welcome and is a wealth of knowledge of what to see and do. If you are planning a visit to Yamhill County then you should stay here...simply amazing. Thanks Leigh for your hospitality!

  • Great Girls Getaway location

6 of us enjoyed the University House for 3 days, 2 nites in September (next time we'll do at least one more nite). Leigh was a wonderful hostess (and her baking is to die for), the house is wonderful, equipped with everything you'd ever need. Beautiful Victorian home, family antiques, pictures and stories from Leigh made our stay a memoriable part of our annual Gardner Girls weekend. Even swapped horse stories. We may return next year and brave up to a hot air balloon ride. Thanks Leigh!

My boyfriend and I stayed at the University House for 3 nights over the New Year. We had the house to ourselves and it was fabulous! Cozy fireplace with plenty of wood stocked, toasty hot tub, comfy beds and an overall beautiful house filled with interesting antiques. Leigh, the owner, was awesome. She had tons of recommendations for dining (several within walking distance, such as The Painted Lady), wineries, and other things to do. Her baking is out of this world and she went out of her way to ensure we had a great stay and a great New Years! We would definitely stay here again!

Artist-carpenter and Mistress Storyteller-Hostess Leigh Wellikoff has transformed this early-century home into a storybook setting from which to launch your wine country adventure. You are at once transported to an idyllic time and place. The furnishings are sumptuous - the home is filled with period antiques and fittings from Leigh's family. The kitchen has every convenience imaginable and, just out the back door, in a hand-built enclosure, is a fantastic hot tub, nestled in an incredible hand-painted mural of the wine country. Just minutes from to-die-for dining (Tina's lamb, duck and vegetarian entrees are perfectly paired with the area's most delectable Pinot offerings, and the Golden Leaf Thai restaurant is a wonderful choice when you just really need a good curry or Tom Kha Gai) and all the wineries. University House is directly across from the lovely George Fox University campus which affords nice walking trails and - if you need it - a great covered fire pit you can rent! There are so many wineries, you cannot possibly cover them all in one trip. Your host is an invaluable source for authoritative - but not overbearing - advice for novices and returning visitors alike. Leigh exudes authenticity and charm in equal measures and, after living in Newberg for 30 years(!), you can be assured that her advice and suggestions are grounded in first-hand knowledge of all things Wine Country. We came for our daughter's graduation from Linfield College in McMinnville. We'll be back to savor this gem of a home and more great wine tasting! Thanks, Leigh! One last tip: Ray's Produce - absolutely the best produce in a 100-mile radius and a very convenient walk from University House.

  • Refreshing, Comforting, Delightful and MORE!

I recently had the pleasure to stay at University House and I have only magnificent things to say about my entire experience. My grandparents were visiting from the east coast and they were looking for a little bit of relaxation in Oregon Wine country. Upon our arrival, we were thrilled to see the outdoor hot tub with a beautiful mural of the surrounding valley painted around the hot tub. Lounging in it that evening with the cool air above me, I almost felt like I was looking out over the view! The kitchen was stocked with all of the appliances and more to make a gourmet meal (although we enjoyed the owner's recommendations of restaurants in the area--> try Red Hills Provincial Dining!). The office, equipped with a computer and printer made the few hours of work that I needed to do easy and we could print our boarding passes for VISTA Balloon Adventures easily. After ditching my plush bathrobe provided for hot tubbing, I slid into my 600 thread count Egyptian cotton sheets and felt like I was in a five star hotel... I slept soundly! The owner was fantastic about answer our questions, making recommendations, and being totally accessible for anything we needed. She even came over right away when we couldn't figure out the tv. Extremely attentive to every detail, she was a hoot and a magnificent hostess. Thanks so much! Can't wait to be back!
